The Welsh Scout Council has a small number of paid employees who support the development of Scouting throughout Wales.  Vacancies are posted here when they arise.

The Welsh Scout Council also has a number of volunteer roles responsible for Scouting across the whole of the principality.

Please note that all roles in Scouting are subject to an enhanced CRB disclosure.

Employment vacancies

Regional Development Officer

Salary: £22,174 (Full time, home-based)

A 3 year project working in Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Radnorshire.

An interesting and exciting opportunity exists to contribute to the development of young people in Wales. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and self-motivated person who will work in diverse communities in the above area. The primary objective of the job is the recruitment of adults.  The postholder will also provide initial support to new volunteers and assist volunteer managers to create Development Action Plans.

Previous relevant experience will be an advantage. A full driving licence, willingness to travel and work evenings is essential.  The post is subject to an enhanced CRB disclosure.

Area Commissioner - Glamorgan West

Glamorgan West Area Scout Council is looking for an Area Commissioner.

If you feel you fit the role or know someone who does, nominations are now being sought.  Self-nominations are now accepted and encouraged but third party nominations are also welcomed.  Where a third party nomination is received this person should be made aware and their permission obtained.

Management experience is essential but need not have been gained within Scouting.  Persons from all backgrounds, not necessarily scouting are welcome to apply.

Assistant Chief Commissioner (Programme)

The main tasks of this role are:

  • To support the delivery of the UK Programme;
  • To deliver a Wales programme strategy/initiative;
  • With ACC (Adult Support) support twice yearly Team Days and Team Agendas;
  • Attend Operations Sub-Committee to report any recommendations from Team Days;
  • Attend other meetings as required;
  • Liaise regularly with Deputy Chief Commissioner;
  • Liaise as appropriate with UK colleagues;
  • Liaise with colleagues in Wales as appropriate;
  • Motivate, lead and support Commissioners Wales;
  • Be part of a multi-disciplinary team providing support to Scouting in Wales;
  • Be proactive in encouraging worthwhile and sustainable initiatives to support Scouting in Wales.

Assistant Chief Commissioner (Media and Communications)

To improve the public image of Scouting in Wales by providing regular information via personal contact and press releases to the media and to keep the ScoutsWales website up to date and relevant.

Main activities:

  • To collate and maintain a databases of media contacts across Wales, disseminating to local Groups as appropriate;
  • To seek out and identify local good news stories and promote these to the media;
  • To build up a network of contacts in each Area/District who will take responsibility for providing information on good news stories;
  • To liaise with the Scout Association's Media Relations Team to ensure that national stories get maximised in Wales;
  • To monitor media coverage in Wales;
  • To write and place press releases to the appropriate media;
  • To attend training events and work with external companies (where appropriate) to develop media skills for Areas, Districts and Groups;
  • To identify training needs in others relating to media and to facilitate and assist in training;
  • To work with the website managers/editors to maintain and update relevant and appropriate websites;
  • Membership of the Funding, Marketing, IT & CSR Sub-committee.

Chair of the Wales Child Protection Team

The Wales Child Protection Team is in need of someone to plan and chair its meetings.

Our child protection co-ordinators perform a valuable role supporting adults in this critical area of our activities and as a team they work to make sure that child protection training and support is properly implemented across Wales.

Child protection is an area that is about to see some changes; the team will be instrumental in their introduction. Having someone to give the team focus is important.
