Mountain training
The Welsh Scout Council provides mountain training through its Yr Hafod mountain training centre in Snowdonia.
Hafod run an annual programme of courses including national governing body awards for hillwalking and climbing - Mountain Leader (ML) Summer, and Single Pitch Award (SPA), and basic and advanced skills weekends for Scouting. Hafod are also able to provide assessment for Scouting permits on these weekends.

Hillwalking basics weekend
An opportunity to learn hillwaking skills - a taster for beginners.
Cost £55
Hillwalking and mountaineering skills weekend
A weekend to improve your skills and confidence for summer hillwalking and mountaineering. This course leads to the skills required for Scout Association permit assessment.

Mountain Leader (ML) Summer
A practically based course which which leads to the NGB award. Training must be followed by a consolidation period, usually of at least a year, before assessment.
Attendance on all three weekends for training and both for assessment is mandatory.

Mountain Leader refresher courses
Ideal for those who are ready for assessment, or just want to update their skills
Cost £55
First aid training
REC level 2. Ideal for those leading groups in adventurous activities. Recognised by leading outdoor bodies.
Cost £120
Explorer Scout weekends
These can be provided by arrangement. We can run bespoke courses for up to 24 young people. Please ring and discuss your dates and requirements. Weekends can be fully programmed to meet your needs.
Cost £40 per head
National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS)
We can now run courses for NNAS which can be incorporated into the hillwalking beasic and Explorer Scout weekends.
