Gwersyll Y Bryniau
Gwersyll Y Bryniau, Machynlleth, Powys
The site consists of a 4-acre field, bounded by a stream on one side and a fence on the other, with a further 20 acres of woods adjacent. Up to four Groups may be in camp together (up to 200 people in total). There is a small providore, which sells badges, sweets etc. and a fridge is available for quartermasters’ use. The ablution block contains toilets, washbasins and showers, all parts being accessible by wheelchair. Hot water is normally available until 9 a.m. and by arrangement at other times. The use of altar fires is required. Wood for burning is available from the woods, although campers will need to supply good bushman saws and axes. (Site staff also request that no live trees be felled or cut.)
There is a 20m x 12m swimming pool. Swimming sessions may be booked, and it may be possible to arrange for a lifeguard to be present if groups cannot provide their own. Pioneering poles are also available, but not ropes. The area has some good hill walking and bicycles may be hired locally. Other attractions include the Tal-y-Llyn Railway, the Centre for Alternative Energy, and a leisure centre at Machynlleth.
Shops and public transport are 3km away and the site is open from April to the end of October.
