North Wales Water Activity Weekend

Friday 12 – Sunday 14 September 2008

An event this year, building on the success of last years fifth use of this venue and the past Bala and Cae Llwyd canoe training weekends. An opportunity for scouts and leaders to be trained and assessed for the new BCU/WCA 1, 2, and 3 star awards in kayaks and 1and 2 star in open boats; plus training and assessment for the Canoe Safety Test and training and assessment for the Level 2 Coach award.

Venue: Llyn Gwynant campsite on the north shore of Llyn Gwynant in Snowdonia.

Groups should be self contained with their own camping equipment, permanent toilet blocks are on site. Calor gas cooking only but altar fires and wood can be hired from the warden.

Be aware that the site can be windy so smaller tents are preferable. Please arrive on Friday evening to set up camp in order to be ready for Saturday morning sessions; this ensures smooth running of the busy weekend.

For kayak or canoe training and assessment each paddler must come fully equipped as for the Islwyn weekend and the craft will be inspected. A responsible adult should be available on shore should any paddler who for any reason leaves the water.

For Canoe Safety Testing candidates should also try and bring a tow line and throwbag.

For Level 2 Coach training or assessment candidates must bring a BCU/WCA C1 form and originals of their canoeing and first aid certificates. These two courses are subject to Welsh Canoe Association registration and early intention of participation is vital, either course will be cancelled if numbers are insufficient.

Cost:
£15.00 per head for 1 or 2 stars
£22.00 per head for 3 star or Canoe Safety
£32.00 per head for Coach Training or assessment
£8.00 per head camping only.
