Cardiff Young Leader runs the Half Marathon

Gareth, a young leader from Radyr reports...

The culmination of ten hard weeks of training ended today. Thankfully, conditions were perfect. Dry, but not too hot.

Having never run the full 21km distance in training my running partner and myself were a little anxious as we lined up with out 8,000 or so fellow runners.

However, once we got going and started clocking up the kilometers we both begun to enjoy the experience. The crowd support put an extra spring in our steps as did the surprisingly frequent calls of "come on lifeboats!". I crossed the finish line triumphantly, just achieving my sub-2.00hr goal (my time was 1hr 59mins 32secs).

Joints are aching a bit now and an early night is planned but thinking of the money raised for the RNLI is keeping the smile on my face. I would like to say a huge thank you for all those that donated through my justgiving website enabling me to reach my £100 goal. I'm sure the inshore lifeboat crewmember who receives the new thermal suit I set my fundraising sights on will be very pleased.
