Scout Network Team for Wales

The Scout Network Team for Wales is made up of the Area Scout Network Commissioners from each of the Scout Areas of Wales, as well as a member from the Scout Network in each of these areas, with input from other people where necessary. It is chaired by the Commissioner for Scout Network (Wales), Helen Barber.

The function of the Team is to support the development of the Scout Network within Wales by advising the Welsh Scout Council on Network matters.

The Team meets twice a year, in the autumn and spring.

If you would like to have an input into what we discuss, we'd be glad to hear from you. Just drop a note on the discussion forum and let us know what you think should be on our agenda.

A briefing note for team members (PDF, 45kB) is available, outlining the role of the team.

A summary of the last meeting can be found below.  Pevious summaries can be found in the archive. Full minutes of all the Team's meetings can be found at the bottom of the page.

Autumn 2008 summary

We made five recommendations:

  • That the suggestion below is reinforced positively to ACs, seeking their commitment to take the matter as a serious suggestion:
Suggestion: Areas should look to members with previous involvement in Network to take on roles such as AAC(ES), DESC and ESLs, and to get involved in Young Leader training.
  • That the Hafod Team reconsider their proposed timing for the Open DofE Gold expedition in light of potential clashes with jamborees, and consider the first two weeks of July as an alternative.
  • That the Welsh Scout council funds the production and printing of a “Network in Wales” insert that can be added to the Network membership packs, and an information leaflet for new network start-ups within Wales.
  • That postal distribution of agendas and draft minutes for this team is ceased immediately, with web and email distribution used instead.
  • That the Welsh Scout Council make available for purchase polo shirts similar to those worn by the LDOs at team day, incorporating both the Scouts Wales logo and the Network Wales logo.

We heard from eight Areas about current progress and future plans, and a brief update on changes at HQ and their current projects.

Members of the team compared their role descriptions against each other. All had a lot of differences. The team recommended to those people who did not have an agreed role description that they should get one as soon as possible.

The Welsh Scout Council's Local Development Officers (LDOs) joined the meeting, and we talked about how network can help the LDOs and what the LDOs can do for network.  This discussion was very postive and helped everyone's understanding.

We discussed a proposal for an open DofE Gold at Hafod, but said that it should avoid the main jamboree weeks, and instead he held after exams and before the main school holidays.

We agreed the briefing note for team members, and discussed resources that should be made available for Network in Wales.

We then discussed how our minutes are distributed, and agreed that this should be online and via email rather than by post.

Finally, we discussed some programme matters, branded clothing, and opportunities which had been received.
