Explorers over GCSE and other Exam Time

Last year i saw a drop in levels of Explorers turning up to meeting over may, june and july

Mainly due (i think) to exams

Do other people find this, and do you close over these times as i am thinking on doing next year

Seriously, I'd talk it through with the Explorers and their parents. Perhaps tone down meetings a little bit, make them sorter and a bit of light relief from all the revision. When I used to do exams, I always set myself a target of doing so much revision by a certain time, and if I completed it I could do what I wanted to do, like go to Explorers etc.

Parents need to understand the value of their kids getting away from their books for an hour or so a week, and it's better them doing something structured like Explorers, than going round their mates houses where they'll get stressed talking about revision and exams.

I know, I know, stirring up an old topic is bad. But I think on this occasion it's quite appropriate.

I too have noticed a drop-off in attendance around exam time, but picking up again in July.

This summer, I looked up the GCSE and A-level exam dates, and blocked the main exam weeks down in the calendar. When writing the programme then for the summer, we made it a "lite" programme, mostly to give those who wanted to the opportunity to chill out. It seemed to work quite well, and I'll be doing it again next year.
