Team X

Team XTeam X is a special Young Leaders Unit open to any Young Leader from Wales. Its main aim is to provide training and support to Explorer Scouts who are Young Leaders in Districts which find it difficult to run training courses. Lots of Explorer Scouts live in isolated towns & villages that don't have Explorer Scout Units. Their only involvement in Scouting is as Young Leaders with Beavers, Cubs or Scouts.

Team X is there to give these Explorers the training they deserve, give them opportunity to meet others of their own age, and to make them feel part of something bigger! However Team X isn't just for those described above - any Young Leader from Wales is welcome to be part of the action!

There are several Team X weekends throughout the year. Some will cover Young Leader Training and Taking the Lead training, others will be practical courses on things like Single Pitch Award, canoeing etc. Anyone who attends one of the courses will be part of Team X and get a polo shirt! Members of Team X we will be expected to help out on Wales and Area events such as the All Wales Scout Camp, Wales Cub Fun Day etc.

Previous weekends

Team X has been going since 2006. Please review the photos from past weekends. These examples give an impression of what Team X gets up to!

Miskin weekend 2008

Our first training weekend of 2008 was held at Miskin Mill to the north of Cardiff.  Four young leader modules were covered plus the launch of a special Wales only “Peer Pressure” module. A great weekend was had by all – the weather was kind to us and a good party on the Saturday night completed the weekend.

Broneirion weekend

Broneirion weekend

We spent a posh weekend in a country house including a formal 'orange tie' dinner on the Saturday night. The Young Leaders deserved the pampering though as they worked hard covering 6 Young Leader training modules. Most of Saturday was taken up on the two programme planning modules, so all those that attended should now be able to put on top quality programmes for their Sections.

North Wales Water weekend

North Wales Water weekend

Team X supported Explorer Scouts at this event by funding them and also doing the catering. Lots of Young Leaders had the opportunity to gain their BCU Stars which leads towards them being able to take kids on the water. The weather was fantastic but it's always cold in that water! Thanks to Barry and his crew for the hard work they put in every year to put on this top quality weekend.

Cornel training weekend

Cornel training weekend

Team X members travelled from every corner of Wales to come together on one of the hottest weekends of the year for this training course in the heart of Snowdonia. The venue was the Welsh Scout Council centre, Cornel. The most requested Young Leaders training module - Module K First Aid Masterclass - was provided this weekend thanks to Matron Helen Barber! Thanks very much Helen.

Hafod rock climbing training

Hafod rock climbing training

The Yr Hafod team put on this climbing weekend at the Welsh Scout Council's training centre in Snowdonia. Only 6 Explorers booked onto this course, but they still got a lot out of it learning climbing, abseiling, belaying, scrambling and bouldering techniques that they will be able to pass on to younger members. Thanks to the Hafod team for making this possible.

Silvercross training weekend

Silvercross training weekend

The first Team X weekend was a Young Leader training weekend at Swansea's Scout Campsite, Silvercross. We were amazing how far people were willing to travel to attend with Young Leaders from as far away as Wrexham and Colwyn Bay taking part. As well as the normal YL modules, there was also training on how to teach firelighting and how to run a campfire.
